October live cattle is trading at 101.55, up 0.15 cents/lb. December live cattle is trading at 102.62, up 0.02 cents/lb. February live cattle is trading at 103.20, down 0.02 cents/lb. Live cattle futures are trading steady just after the open. Thursday's USDA cattle slaughter was 114,000 head, the total for the week is now 344,000 head, down from 450,000 last week and down versus 346,000 a year ago. The dressed steer weights for the week ending August 27th were 896 pounds, up from 893 the previous week and down from 906 pounds a year ago. Beef production for the week ending August 27th was 505.8 million pounds, up 9.4 percent versus a year ago.
