U.S. Dollar Index Edges Up, Housing Starts Rise

The September U.S. Dollar Index is trading at 94.82, down 0.76. The U.S. Dollar Index is trading choppy and has moved up off the session lows. Market talk about comments by members Federal Reserve and global headline news is constant. The Census Bureau reported that July Housing Starts rose 2.1 percent versus a rise of 4.8 percent in June. Building Permits were down 0.1 percent versus a rise in June of 1.5 percent. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that year over year Core CPI (consumer price index) for July was 2.2 percent versus 2.3 percent June. Year over year CPI was 0.8 percent versus 1.0 percent in June. On the month CPI was flat in July versus 0.2 in June.
