As e-commerce and food industries continue to soar and the need for low-cost delivery methods become a priority for businesses, autonomous last-mile delivery technology offers a solution. The technological advancement in Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), self-driving vehicles, and cargo drones are expected to push the autonomous ground delivery market from $12 billion in 2021 to $1 trillion by 2023, according to Visiongain.

Last-mile delivery makes up a huge percentage of transportation costs as products have to be shipped from the warehouse to the customer’s destination. The e-commerce industry faces challenges when it comes to delivering orders on time, owing partly to the increase in road traffic on urban roads. In addition, it can be hard for large vehicles to reach remote locations with poor road networks. To solve some of the issues the industry is facing, companies in the space, such as Amazon.com Inc. AMZN and Walmart Inc. WMT are relying on autonomous means that promise to ease road congestion and allow fast deliveries.

One of the companies that are offering its autonomous technology solutions to solve challenges faced in the e-commerce and logistics industry is Daxbot, Inc.

Daxbot’s Delivery Robots

Daxbot’s first solution is an electric, semi-autonomous food delivery robot, also known as Dax, which is focused on the growing food delivery market. Dax is designed to be a “who”, not a “what”, with his own personality and a range of expressive behaviors (Daxbot recently created a video of the robot interacting with another robot). The robot can deliver flowers, groceries, office mail, medicine, and anything that can fit its 13 x 13-inch storage compartment.

Rather than using the highway, Dax uses the sideways and crosswalks when making deliveries. The bot is also built with an anti-collision ability, and it can avoid hitting wheelchairs, strollers, or pedestrians. The company’s robots are not only designed to make food deliveries; they were designed to be adaptable to many other tasks as the market need arises.

Dax and the Food Delivery Market

Daxbot says its autonomous food delivery robot is helping Nourish + Bloom Market achieve its vision of making eating healthy and access to food convenient for everyone. Nourish + Bloom Market is an upcoming grocery store that could disrupt the traditional grocery market as it will offer frictionless technology for its customers to pay for items without standing in a line. Customers will only have to scan the Nourish + Bloom mobile application that will be connected to their digital wallet.

Using Dax, the store will be able to make autonomous robotic deliveries. According to its website, Nourish + Bloom will be the first autonomous grocery with robotic delivery in the U.S. Jamie Michael Hemmings, one of the founders of the shop, believes Daxbot’s unique robots will bring attention to the store by allowing customers 24/7 access to food and environmentally friendly products once the store is open.
