Shanda (GAME) Acquires Mochi For $80 Million

Mochi Media, the Flash game advertising and payments platform funded by Accel Partners and Shasta Ventures, has been acquired by Shanda Games (NASDAQ: GAME) for $80 million. $60 million will be in cash and the remainder in equity.

Shanda is China’s largest operator of online games and hosts massively multi-player online role-playing games (MMORG). Currently, it has about ten million active accounts where users pay monthly fees to subscribe and also purchase items within the game.

Mochi Media had 100 million people playing its games in June 2009. Mochi was close to being acquired in 2009, but the deal was scrapped. Shanda had acquired Goldcool Games earlier this month.
