Queens Welcomes NY's First Woman-Owned Cannabis Shop

New York City opened its fourth legal recreational cannabis store and first outside of Manhattan last week. Good Grades, the Jamaica, Queens pop-up dispensary at 162-03 Jamaica Ave. is also the first woman-owned dispensary in New York state, reported New York Post.

"We are incredibly passionate about providing greater access to cannabis and breaking down the barriers that prevent so many people, especially those from marginalized communities, from experiencing the benefits of this amazing plant," Extasy James, who will operate the dispensary alongside her cousin, attorney Michael James Jr.

Cannabis Goes International

In the meantime, Tyson 2.0, a cannabis brand owned by Mike Tyson recently announced its first branded coffee shop in Amsterdam, Netherlands, reported AfroTech. Located near Amsterdam's Soho House and W Hotel on the Spuistraat 222, the new shop marks the brand's expansion into Europe.

In Thailand, OG Retail Company kicked off cannabis sales at a second Cloud Nine dispensary in Bangkok's Silom area at the crossroads of Narathiwas and Surawong, inside the Red Planet Hotel.

Canadian cannabis retailer Fire & Flower Holdings Corp. FAF FFLWF recently opened a new cannabis retail store at 330 Portage Avenue in downtown Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Michigan Continues To Ramp Up Cannabis Offering

In Michigan, retailers continue to ramp up their cannabis offering, even though there is a marijuana store for nearly every 17,000 state residents. On the heels of appearing on our latest iteration of a cannabis dispensary roundup, the Wolverine State made it to this week's list as well with three new store openings.

  • Detroit got its second majority-Black-owned store selling recreational marijuana. High Profile Cannabis Shop is located on the city's east side and is co-owned by Najanava Harvey-Quinn and run by Ann Arbor-based C3 Industries, reported Detroit Metro Times.

  • A sovereign Anishinaabek nation ventured into the state's recreational cannabis market recently with the opening of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians' store in Acme Township, reported Traverse City Record-Eagle. Beach Fire Cannabis, the debut of the Grand Traverse Band's first marijuana dispensary, operates at Turtle Creek Market, the convenience store and gas station adjacent to Turtle Creek Casino and Hotel.

  • The city of Iron River, some 10 miles from the Wisconsin border, got its second cannabis dispensary. Greenpharm, located off US-2 as you enter Iron River from Crystal Falls, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony last week, reported Upper Michigan's Source.

West Virginia's Two New Stores

As lawmakers continue to push to legalize the recreational use of cannabis in West Virginia, these two companies are ready to jump on the opportunity once policy reform gets enacted.

  • On Friday, Columbia Care Inc. CCHW CCHW CCHWF 3LP opened its fifth medical cannabis store in the state. Cannabist Huntington is located at 917 3rd Avenue.
  • Verano Holdings Corp. VRNO VRNOF opened Zen Leaf Buckhannon at 120 Buckhannon Crossroads on the same day.

Other Stores That Opened Stores Lately

  • Bloom Montana launched a new Bloom marijuana dispensary in Columbia Falls, Montana, serving both medical and recreational consumers at 1615 W 9th Street.
  • In Austin, Texas, medical cannabis patients overwhelmingly welcomed the opening of the first Goodblend store statewide, reported KVUE.
  • Rhode Island's seventh dispensary selling recreational marijuana kicked off operations reported The Providence Journal. Solar Therapeutics Rhode Island Inc., which is doing business as Solar Cannabis Co., held a grand opening event at 65 Meadow St. The move came on the heels of Solar's Dartmouth adult-use dispensary opening, the third store in Massachusetts.
  • Cannabis multi-state operator Medicine Man Technologies SHWZ SHWZ, which operates as Schwazze, expanded its retail footprint in New Mexico recently with a new store at 800 W. Pierce Street in Carlsbad.
