The fertilizer companies, such as Mosaic
MOS, Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan
POT, and Intrepid Potash
IPI are performing strongly today.
A Barron's article from December 29 suggests that especially Mosaic would be a good way to play a potential food shortage in the future.
The article states that "crop prices remain high, with the world's growing appetite still far from sated, and demand for phosphate and potash could still climb in the low-double digits next year."
The traders who believe that the potential food shortage in the future will benefit these names might want to think about adding one of them or the recently launched Global X Fertilizers/Potash ETF
SOIL to their portfolios.
