4S Means "For Steve"

When Apple
AAPL
released the the
iPhone 4S
on Tuesday, most people were up in arms, crying and whining that it was not named the iPhone 5, despite being drastically different than the iPhone 4. Now, we know why they named it the 4S instead of the iPhone 5. Now we all know why.
4S= For Steve.
Steve Jobs touched this world in a way few, if any, ever have, or ever will. As I wrote my column last night, admittedly, it was not an easy thing to do. I debated about whether to express my thoughts (sometimes not as eloquent as I would like), use tweets from across the spectrum to form a memorial and a remembrance, or some kind of combination. Ultimately, I chose to take quotes from CEO's, politicians and combine that with some of my thoughts, and I hope that I was able to do the man a sliver of the justice he deserved. The outpouring of emotion he has received since passing last night is reserved for very few: Presidents, Popes, and few, if any else. John Lennon comes to mind when he was shot, but this is more recent and fresh in people's minds. He had a way and a vision about him that is reserved for people like Albert Einstein, Leonardo Da Vinci, Henry Ford, and Thomas Edison. He did not just revolutionize tech and computers, we all know that. Jobs had a hand influencing advertising (see the 1984 commercial that aired once and is still remembered today).
He also had a hand influencing movies (remember, he was the CEO of Pixar and the single largest shareholder of Disney
DIS
after the acquisition in 2006), product design (making the iPad, iPhone and iPod the most beautiful and easy to use products for millions). He revolutionized music, making the way people consume music and purchase music so much easier and so much more fun. Jobs once said, "It's more fun to be a pirate than to join the navy." He got the world's population to stop "pirating" music, and actually pay for it. He got people to pay for content, which is almost impossible to do in these times.
The fact that new CEO Tim Cook and Phil Schiller were able to keep their composure's, while obviously knowing the end was near is nothing short of amazing.
As it should be.
It is a testament to the will and the way Jobs ran things in Cupertino. The fact that most people know that Apple is based in Cupertino and most people know that is amazing. Most people could not tell you where their own company is headquartered, but they know where Apple is located. Lastly, the technology. Jobs integrated the software and the hardware in a way no one else has. We have no viruses, and everything works and looks beautifully. I have said this before and I will say it again. You married art and science in a way few, if any, have ever done.
You once said, “I want to put a ding in the universe.” Steve, you put more than a ding. You created a a huge dent that no one can ever replace. For that, we say thank you. iSad.
