The north side of Chicago waited more than a century for their baseball team to be crowned champions.

The Chicago Cubs needed an extra inning and a seven games to defeat the Cleveland Indians in what could go down as one of the greatest games in history.

For the first time ever, the historic and iconic New Year's Eve Ball welcomed in 1908 and has been a yearly tradition since.

The first ball was made of iron and wood and weighed 700 pounds. It was built an immigrant metalworker who went on to create Artkraft Strauss.

'Take Me Out To The Ballgame'

Jack Norworth's classic, "Take Me Out To The Ball Game" was written on a piece of scrap paper on a train ride in New York. The paper was then given to Albert Von Tilzer who composed the music which ultimately became a hit song at every ballpark to this very day.

Cars Were Barely On The Road

1908 also happens to be the same year that Ford Motor Company F completed production of its first Model T at its Piquette Avenue plant in Detroit.

The Model T was built for ordinary people as there were fewer than 200,000 cars on the road in 1908. Priced at $825 ($18,000 in today's dollars), the car was also an example of how corporate America can keep its prices low by focusing on just one product.

The Gentlemen's Agreement Is Official

The United States and Japan reached an agreement not to issue passports to emigrants to the US except for businessmen and professionals. In return, the U.S. government rescinded an order in which children of Japanese parents were segregated from white students in schools.

The agreement was referred to as the "Gentlemen's Agreement" and came into affect in 1908.
