International Business Machines Corp. IBM revealed that the Professional division of Kimberly-Clark, has adopted its cloud to establish a new intelligent facilities management app. According to the company, it would help clients better monitor and manage restrooms remotely thus reducing its costs and improving consumer experiences.

The tech firm said Kimberly-Clark Professional's new Intelligent Restroom app was created with the help of IBM Bluemix development platform and was hosted on the IBM Cloud. The company added that through the use of the Internet of Things (IoT) service, facilities managers collect data, as well as, alerts from sensors integrated into restroom amenities, from soap dispensers to air fresheners, and non-amenities such as entrance doors. The company stated that all the data was managed and monitored through a central dashboard, which could be viewed on desktops or mobile devices remotely.

IBM Distinguished Engineer and CTO, IBM Bluemix Garage, Rachel Reinitz, commented "Kimberly-Clark Professional products are used by one fourth of the world's population on a regular basis. IBM Cloud, from development platform through IoT, enabled them to develop and deploy the innovative Intelligent Restroom from the ground up."

Similarly, VP of Global Innovation at Kimberly-Clark Professional, Bryan Semkuley, said "The restroom and supplies management have always been important factors in facilities management, however, we now know they're critical to maintaining the business itself. We wanted to help our clients reduce tenant churn, lower costs, and improve the customers' experience along the way. That's when we turned to innovations in cloud and IoT from IBM that can be operated from facilities managers' smartphones."

On Thursday, the stock fell 1.77 percent.
