Social Data Forecasts Growth Of Fresh Grocery Delivery

According to the latest data from TickerTags, fresh grocery delivery could become more commonplace in years to come.

TickerTags monitors social media sites to identify trends by searching for words and phrases that appear together in social media content, such as tweets.

Amazon.com, Inc. AMZN’s AmazonFresh could soon be the first nationwide grocery delivery service. In the past, the infrastructure for grocery delivery services only existed in major cities, such as New York. However, Amazon has made no secret about its push to utilize its massive delivery network to ultimately bring grocery delivery to Middle America.

AmazonFresh currently offers subscribers free unlimited delivery on orders greater than $50 for a flat cost of $299 per year.

For comparison, the current price of Amazon Prime membership is $99 per year.

The existing grocery delivery services seem to be catching on with the public. Organic social media mentions of New York delivery services “FreshDirect” and “AmazonFresh” have climbed 52 percent and 46 percent, respectively, so far this year.

Amazon’s service seems to have the most momentum of late. “AmazonFresh” has eclipsed the number of mentions of “FreshDirect” by 61 percent for the first time ever in May and June.

Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. WMT is looking to be the next to jump into grocery delivery, recently announcing partnerships with Uber, Lyft and Deliv.
