Myrna Gillis is an entrepreneur, lawyer, innovator and disabilities advocate. She founded her own firm and practiced labour and employment law for 25 years. Myrna’s focus was primarily representing individuals and agencies supporting persons with disabilities before joining the cannabis industry in 2014. Motivated by her passion for disabilities advocacy and desire to ensure access to safe, consistent, affordable cannabis produced in an environmentally responsible way,

she co-founded Aqualitas Inc. and its research and development subsidiary, Finleaf Technologies Inc. Myrna is a sought-after industry expert because of her experience and background, in law, disabilities advocacy, research and development, cultivation, investment,

and the promotion of women in business. Under her leadership, Aqualitas is poised to be the largest licensed producer in Nova Scotia with its home in the Port Mersey Commercial Park in Brooklyn.

Myrna has successfully pitched the Arcview Group, North America’s largest cannabis deal flow angel network, which contributed 5 million of the more than 15 million dollars in exempt market capital raised by Aqualitas in 2017 in Canada and the USA. She has led initiatives in research, development and innovation, including projects with grant funding from provincial and federal agencies. Finleaf Technology, in association with Acadia and Dalhousie University, has developed a proprietary aquaponics cultivation process, which has been recognized with a SPARKS Innovation and a Clean Technology Award. This system was also featured by the Washington Institute of Environmental Law for sustainability. As one of Canada’s few female cannabis producer founders and executives Myrna promotes diversity in the work place, women in business and is proud to be an allied member of Women Grow, a for-profit entity that serves as a catalyst for women to influence and succeed in the cannabis industry.

Myrna has served on the executive of various boards, including the Dartmouth Adult Services Centre, a social enterprise employer supporting persons with disabilities; For A Dream’s Sake, an endowment fund for women with terminal cancer; Dalhousie Law Alumni Association; Boys and Girls Clubs of Nova Scotia and Canada; and the Dalhousie Legal Aid Service Board of

Trustees. She also served on the Nova Scotia labour management review committee and received her Queen’s Counsel designation in 2014 for exceptional merit and contribution to the legal profession and has been continuously peer-rated for her high level of professionalism, competence and ethical standards.

Myrna enjoys wilderness camping and travel with her family.

Aqualitas Inc. is licensed to cultivate medical cannabis under Health Canada’s Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations.
