Darren Weiss serves as Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel of Verano Holdings (CSE: VRNO)(OTCQX: VRNOF), a leading, vertically integrated, U.S. multi-state cannabis company. As one of the largest cannabis companies in the nation, Verano has active operations across 13 states that include 14 cultivation and production facilities and more than 120 dispensaries that operate under the company’s flagship Zen LeafTM and MÜVTM banners.
Mr. Weiss is deeply involved in Verano’s operations at every level and applies his well-honed management and analytical skills across the organization to streamline processes, standardize operations and bolster performance. From conceptualization to design and implementation, Mr. Weiss leverages his many years of regulatory and corporate experience to foster expertise and drive efficiency across the company. Mr. Weiss is also a highly regarded author, thought leader and speaker on legal and operational topics affecting the commercial cannabis industry.
Mr. Weiss joined Verano after leaving his position as a principal at a large law firm, where he headed up the firm’s cannabis practice. Instrumental in the formation and organization of cannabis companies across the U.S., he has worked with both private and public cannabis companies on corporate financing, drafting and negotiating investment documents, licensing agreements, executing vendor contracts, providing business advice and counsel on competitive licensing applications, and implementing cannabis business design and strategy. Mr. Weiss has advised both investors and cannabis businesses, orchestrated the closing of multi-million-dollar transactions, and provided counsel in the creation of multi-state brands and products.
In addition to his role at Verano, Mr. Weiss currently sits on the Executive Committee and Board of the Maryland Wholesale Medical Cannabis Trade Association. He has also earned professional accolades in the Baltimore Business Journal’s “40 Under 40” and “People to Know in the Law” features, and the Maryland Daily Record’s 2016 “Innovator of the Year” award. Mr. Weiss received his Bachelor’s Degree magna cum laude from Washington University in St. Louis and his Juris Doctorate cum laude from George Mason University School of Law. Prior to law school, he worked as a business consultant providing performance management and business operational consulting services for public and private sector clients. Mr. Weiss and his family are based in the Baltimore, MD area.
