The E3 Expo: What's Going On?

E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) is the largest annual video game expo in the world, and will take place between Tuesday and Thursday, inclusive, in Los Angeles. Ahead of the kickoff, Sterne Agee CRT analysts Arvind Bhatia and Brett Strauser provide a bird’s eye view of what to expect from the event.

According to a the research note, published Sunday, the firm anticipates the focus of the press conferences and general meetings this year will be on:

1) The key upcoming video-game titles for the year.

2) The publishers’ long-term potential in the virtual reality technology space.

The analysts then take a look at the main focus titles by publisher:

  • Activision Blizzard, Inc. ATVI, Buy rated: Call of Duty: Black Ops III, Guitar Hero Live, and Destiny: The Taken King (expansion pack)
  • Electronic Arts Inc. EA, Buy rated: Star Wars: Battlefront, FIFA 16, Madden NFL 16, and Mirror's Edge: Catalyst. The analysts also expect comments related to EA’s subscription service, EA Access, and the announcement of additional titles that will be added to the "vault" soon.
  • Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. TTWO, Buy rated: Battleborn, XCOM 2.
  • France-based Ubisoft Entertainment SA UBI, Neutral rated: Assassin's Creed: Syndicate, Rainbow Six: Seige, The Division. The experts highlight that the company was the best performer among console-focused companies last week.
  • Microsoft Corporation MSFT: Halo 5: Guardians
  • Time Warner Inc TWX – Warner Bros: Batman: Arkham Knight
