Summary:
We initiate coverage on Cablevision Systems with a Neutral recommendation. The company reported strong financial results for the first quarter of 2014 - wherein both the top and the bottom line significantly outpaced the Zacks Consensus Estimate. Cablevision's overall average monthly cable revenue per customer increased over 6% and average monthly cable revenue per video customer rose 7.7%. Management expects operating cash flow to grow by mid-to-high single digit in 2014. On the other hand, Cablevision continues to lose video subscribers. We believe that stiff competition from satellite TV and telecom operators coupled with mounting programming expenses will continue to act as headwinds for the company. Meanwhile, the stock price has plummeted 15.4% in the last year. We believe that Cablevision is currently fairly valued.
