iTV, the Holy Grail of mysterious Apple
AAPL
products, is getting a boost of hype today after Topeka Capital Markets issued a new report.
According to the
Associated Press
, Topeka's Brian White believes that Apple will definitely release its first television this year. What's more, White said that the price will fall between $1,500 and $2,500. He expects Apple to launch a 60-inch model but added that 50- and 55-inch versions are also possible. This would explain the vast price range. While many have theorized that the iPad or iPhone could be used to control an Apple-made television, White believes that Apple will release a ring-sized device to replace the traditional remote control. The ring (or "iRing," as White called it) will allow users to interact with the TV by pointing at the screen. Specific gestures were not mentioned, though one can assume that Apple will design many for users to memorize. As clever as it may be, the iRing concept is nothing new. According to
AppleInsider
, third-party manufacturers been experimenting with device-controlling rings since 2007.
