CareFusion to Unveil New Product Line - Analyst Blog

Global medical technology company, CareFusion Corporation CFN is slated to launch three products at the 41st annual conference of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC).

These new products – ChloraPrep 1mL applicator, ChloraShield IV dressing and MaxZero needleless connector -- are expected to help reduce surface contamination or check the presence of microorganisms that can cause infections during hospital stays and procedures.

The ChloraPrep 1mL applicator will be a part of CareFusion's ChloraPrep line of preoperative skin preparation products. It boasts a unique delivery system and winged activation design which makes the 1 mL applicator easy to use, thus promoting aseptic techniques and best practices. ChloraPrep skin prep products have been found to be more effective than povidone-iodine at reducing the presence of infection causing microorganisms on the skin.

The ChloraShield IV dressing with chlorhexidine gluconate CHG antimicrobial is a flexible and breathable dressing that improves patient care during vascular access procedures. An innovative adhesive technology comfortably secures the dressing to the skin, absorbs fluid and provides protection from external contaminants. The CHG incorporated within the adhesive preserves the dressing from microbial growth. ChloraShield dressings allow easy application and removal and are comfortable for patients to wear.

CareFusion's MaxZero needleless connector, designed to improve patient safety, is an extension to a proprietary portfolio of needleless connectors. It has a solid, sealed surface, which acts as a barrier to bacteria and contamination and allows effective three second disinfection with an alcohol pad. The MaxZero needleless connector has a smaller profile and prevents reflux of blood into the catheter after being disconnected. It promotes nursing best practices by reducing process steps.

Apart from launching these new products, CareFusion is also focusing on developing tools that can improve patient compliance with physician cleansing instructions. New data is being presented on how increased compliance can affect the amount of antiseptic present on the skin.

CareFusion's StartClean Cleansing Program has a unique reminder system to improve bathing compliance. Under this feature, patients receive a 4% CHG cleanser with disposable sponges and an individualized service is provided through texts, emails or voice messages, reminding them to use the cleanser as per physician instructions.
