At a media event held earlier today, Google revealed more information about its upcoming Android 3.0 update, dubbed “Honeycomb.” Honeycomb is designed to work on tablet computers because previous versions of Android OS have not been optimized for devices with larger displays.

Google announced today that Android 3.0 will sport a multitasking toolbar that will be easily accessible and will display recently used applications, as well as running applications. Honeycomb also improves widget functionality on Android OS, allowing developers to build more extensive widgets that get information from the user.

Android 3.0 will also feature a new notification system, with pop-ups appearing in the lower-right hand corner. The notification window can display pictures of the person who sent you information as well. The notification system will also allow apps to appear on screen for quick changes/access.

Honeycomb will also come with hardware acceleration features – developers can insert code to utilize the feature in their application. Android 3.0 will also sport a new 3D graphics engine and the ability to video chat using a handset that supports it, or a tablet with a front-facing camera.
