Crude oil prices exploded for a second straight week topping the $80.00 mark for the 1st time in 6 weeks with the more active April contract closing at $80.06, up $5.56 on the week. A strong Euro against the Dollar, a boost in equities on higher earnings, and strong manufacturing figures kicked off the rallies as floor trading commenced on Tuesday after the Presidents day holiday.

Crude oil prices fell for a third week in a row last week reaching new lows for the year at $72.43 while posting the first monthly loss since July and largest since December 2008. Prices settled at $72.89 for the spot March contract losing 2.4% on the week and 8.3% in January.

Weekly Crude Oil Report-11-9-09 Oil prices swung in a wide range last week, rallying to a high of $81.06 off of a technical double bottom pattern at $76.55, only to fall back down as rally efforts peaked at the weekly downtrend line drawn from 2009 highs at $82.00. Crude oil for December delivery ended Friday’s session squeaking out a marginal week on week gain of just 43 cents to close at the lower end of the range at $77.43.
