Street Not A Believer In Bayer's Takeover Of Monsanto

Monsanto Company MON shares are trading higher by $5.19 at $106.52 in Monday's session. That's well below the reported takeover price of $122 that Bayer is willing to pay for the company.

As it did when the rumor initially surfaced on May 12, the issue opened near its high for the session and began to retreat. In fact, on May 5, it peaked at $109.99 in pre-market trading and weakened to close at $97.92.

Off the open in today's session, it peaked at $109.37 but has been able to hold on to a majority of its overnight gains.
