2 Consumer Discretionaries Earnings On Wednesday: Vera Bradley & Five Below

Shares of Vera Bradley, Inc. VRA and Five Below Inc FIVE were tumbling on Tuesday, ahead of the announcement of the companies’ second-quarter fiscal 2016 financial results, scheduled for Wednesday.

Vera Bradley will report its quarterly results on Wednesday before the market opens, and everyone is expecting one of the weakest quarters ever.

Management guided earnings of $0.10 per share to $0.13 per share and revenue in the $116 million to $120 million range. This compares to earnings of $0.19 per share on revenue of $120.1 million registered a year ago, and to earnings of $0.00 per share on revenue of $101.1 million delivered last quarter.

The Street, for its part, is modeling consensus earnings in line with the lower end of the guidance, at $0.10 per share, on revenue of $115.39 million (Estimize). The crowd, for its part, is projecting consensus earnings of $0.09 per share on revenue of $113.84 million.

Five Below

Five Below, on the other hand, is reporting its second-quarter financial results after the market closes on Wednesday.

The company’s earnings, as many other retailers, respond to a cyclical pattern, peaking in the fiscal fourth quarter of each year, falling in the first quarter, recuperating slightly in the second one, and tumbling again in the third.

For the quarter being reported on Wednesday, the Street is expecting earnings of $0.13 per share, on revenue of $184.98 million. Meanwhile, the crowd anticipates EPS of $0.14 on sales of $186.17 million.

These results are somewhat lukewarm, compared to EPS of $0.15 on revenue of $152.5 million registered a year ago, and to EPS of $0.11 on sales of $117.1 million delivered two years ago.
