Microsoft (MSFT) Up 8% After Earnings Release
Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) announced very positive earnings this morning in a Q1 where no Windows 7 revenues or earnings were booked. Both the top and bottom line beat without any help from the new Windows 7 upgrade cycle.
Xbox and the Office suite software were the major drivers for the beat in the current quarter.
Earnings came in at $0.40/share compared to $0.48/share last year and an analyst estimate of $0.32/share.
Revenue came in at $12.92B compared to a $12.32B estimate. In addition the company deferred $1.47B in revenue and $0.12/share in earnings due to the Windows 7 launch. This would have further added to the top and bottom line.
Overall it was a very positive report and we will know more about guidance going forward and Windows 7 expectations on the conference call later this morning.
In the pre-market Microsoft is up 8% to $28.72/share.
