Consumer Staples ETF Sees Unusual Options Trade

Trading just a few cents off its 52-week high, the Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (NYSE: XLP) is seeing some unusual options activity today as more than 47,000 puts have changed hands in the June 26 strike. That compares with average daily options volume of 6,600 contracts for XLP.

Most of the activity was put selling and it came against open interest of 9,331 contracts, so this activity does indicate the opening of fresh positions.

The 30-day historical volatility in XLP is 10.5%.
