Anything Can Happen at This Year's TradersExpo Vegas
Meet new traders, learn from the world's leading experts, converse with other financial professionals and more at this year's TradersExpo.
Scheduled to take place from November 14 through November 17 in Las Vegas, the expo features more than 70 speakers, including Brian Shannon, the President of AlphaTrends.net. Benzinga readers can register for free by heading over to the official TradersExpo page.
During a recent discussion, Shannon told Benzinga about the most exciting moment he had at a TradersExpo event.
"After one talk, someone offered me the opportunity to manage $2 million," said Shannon. "That was pretty cool. They just came up to be and basically gave me a real big account to trade for a while."
This year Shannon will be discussing the "Low Risk and High Profit Potential Entries for Swing Traders."
"I started out with trying to make it a little controversial, saying, 'Is buying pullback the best strategy?' And then I say no because buying pullback is buying weakness, and I don't like to buy on weakness because you never know when it's going to continue to pullback," said Shannon. "Instead, we want to wait for the stock to settle in a little bit, let the sellers move to the sidelines, and let the buyers take control of that in the short-term, where we reach kind of an equilibrium where it's more neutral, which is known as the accumulation phase of the shorter-term timeframe.
"Then as the buyer regains the upper hand and establishes a higher high on a short-term timeframe, then the momentum comes back into it."
In addition to his role as a frequent speaker, Shannon enjoys attending the events to meet people in person that he spoke to online via Twitter and StockTwits. "You get to see so many people that you normally wouldn't see," he said. "You get to put the faces to the Twitter handles and have discussions with them. That's what I look forward to the most."
While Shannon has attended multiple TradersExpos, he said that the Vegas event is his favorite. "It's got the most energy," he said. "It's got the best attendance and there's plenty of other activities outside of discussion to enjoy there as well."
In fact, it provides attendees with a great opportunity to take a mini-vacation. "I think [attendees] can make a vacation out of it," said Shannon. "They can go have a nice meal, see a show, do shopping and that sort of thing. I think people definitely do take a little bit of extra time and enjoy all of the benefits Las Vegas has to offer."
Shannon encourages first-time attendees are to "walk through the expo and spend some time there getting to know the other traders."
"I think the Happy Hour is a good opportunity to do that," he said. "One of the nights they have a Happy Hour in the expo hall. People get to walk around and meet others."
