IBM to Acquire Red Hat

The Rumor:
IBM (NYSE: IBM) on Wednesday, announced the acquisition of software testing company Green Hat. Today, rumors of a deal for Linux software firm Red Hat (NYSE: RHT), were making the rounds. IBM is rumored to be offering $56.50 for Red Hat.

A spokesperson for IBM had no comment on the rumor, but thought the confusion might have been over the Green Hat acquisition. A Red Hat spokesperson was not available for comment.

Red Hat shares traded in a range of $42.25 to $43.02 Thursday on slightly more than the average daily volume. Red Hat closed at $42.70, a gain of 0.71% for the day.

Starwood Hotels and Resorts to be Acquired by Private Equity Firm

The Rumor:
Starwood Hotels and Resorts (NYSE: HOT) to be acquired by a private equity firm for $70 per share.

Takeover chatter in Starwood last appeared on November 2, 2011. A company spokesperson was not available for comment.

Starwood shares traded in a range Thursday of $48.23 to $50.73 on slightly more than the average daily volume. Starwood closed at $50.65, a gain of 2.45% for the day.

Intel-Led Group to Acquire Interdigital

The Rumor:
A group led by Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) to acquire Interdigital (NASDAQ: IDCC) for $65.50 per share.

Interdigital has a takeover rumor every week. A spokesperson for the company reiterated the policy of not commenting on rumors or speculation.

Still, many like the editor of the Little Bear Research blog, believe a deal will eventually be made.

InterDigital shares traded in a range of $41.06 to $43.40 on 1.25 times the average daily volume and closed at $42.21, a gain of 0.88% for the day.

Yahoo to Acquire WebMD

The Rumor:
Yahoo (NASDAQ: YHOO) to acquire WebMD (NASDAQ: WBMD), according to Bloomberg. WebMD is one of several companies on Yahoo's "wish list", along with the Weather Channel and possibly Netflix.

WebMD has been the subject of recent private equity chatter, though major shareholder Carl Icahn, does not support such a move. Benzinga did not receive a reply to a call made to WebMD.

Shares of WebMD traded Thursday in a range of $37.39 to $40.24 on about 2.5 times the average daily volume. WebMD closed at $39.28, a gain of 3.45% for the day.

Caterpillar to Acquire Agco

The Rumor:
Caterpillar (NYSE: CAT) to acquire Agco (NYSE: AGCO).

The German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reported that Agco CEO Martin Richenhagen would not rule out a merger with Caterpillar. A Caterpillar spokesperson would not comment and Agco did not return a call from Benzinga.

Agco shares traded Thursday in a range of $45.15 to $46.89, on 2.4 times the average daily volume. Agco closed at $46.84, a gain of 3.26% for the day.

Nelson Peltz to Acquire Part or All of Hansen Natural

The Rumor:
Nelson Peltz's Trian Group to acquire a stake in Hansen Natural.

There has been previous private equity chatter in Hansen. A Hansen spokesperson told Benzinga the company does not speak to the media.

Hansen Natural shares rose 1.37% Thursday, on 73% of the average daily volume. Shares traded in a range of $91.94 to $94.17 and closed at $93.86.

QuinnStreet to be Acquired by Private Equity Firm

The Rumor:
QuinnStreet (NASDAQ: QNST) to be acquired by a private equity firm, according to dealReporter.

QuinnStreet did not respond to a call from Benzinga.

QuinnStreet shares rose 2.47% Thursday, on slightly less than the average daily volume. Shares traded in a range of $9.57 to $10.00 and closed at $9.72.
