Here is the ETF Professor's ETF Watch List for Thursday September 29, 2011.

It's time to buy some volatility with the iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures ETN (NYSE: VXX).

The iShares MSCI Japan Index Fund (NYSE: EWJ) looks like a decent defensive play.

We still like the ProShares UltraShort Basic Materials (NYSE: SMN).

Play oil with the ProShares Ultra DJ-UBS Crude Oil (NYSE: UCO).

Emerging markets plays of the day: ProShares UltraShort FTSE China 25 (NYSE: FXP), Direxion Daily Emerging Markets Bear 3X Shares (NYSE: EDZ) and the Market Vectors Vietnam ETF (NYSE: VNM).

Forex play of the day: PowerShares DB US Dollar Index Bullish (NYSE: UUP).

Bond play of the day: Vanguard Total Bond Market ETF (NYSE: BND).
