Did Ancient Aliens Give Us Gold?

Probably not, but it is an interesting theory and almost as viable as the theory that gold came from meteors billions and billions of years ago. There was a study done at the
University of Bristol
which shows that ancient meteors brought gold from outer space. This is the reason why there is one thousand times more the amount of gold in the Earth's crust then there should be. According to the study, the gold was brought by "terminal bombardment." This is why we have so much gold, platinum, and other precious metals near the Earth's surface. The study concluded that the heavier precious metals should have sunk to the Earth's core as it was cooling, but ancient meteors carrying the precious metals crashed into the Earth and left them close to the surface. "The proportions of gold and other precious metals are difficult to measure because they concentrate into nuggets, and we need to analyze a lot of rocks to get meaningful data," lead researcher Matthias Willbold told the BBC. This is especially interesting, as central banks around the world race to devalue their currencies, and we still have problems in Europe. All of this is making gold much more valuable then it ever has been, and has some
calling for $2,000 an ounce relatively soon.
There are now talks that Greece could default over the weekend, and if that happens, gold may move even higher. With the University of Bristol claiming that gold and other precious metals came from outer space on the backs of ancient meteors, the fact we have an abundance of these metals is even more mind-boggling. It also shows how rare they are, and why they have been given the name precious metals. If meteors had not brought these metals, what would we have used for currency hedges? Would gold and other precious metals be worth even more, as they would be less plentiful then they already are? It is certainly possible, as digging for them would be much more expensive. Depending on how deep into the Earth's core the metals are, they may not even be able to be extracted. They may not have come from ancient aliens, but they did come from outer space. The universe never ceases to amaze.
ACTION ITEMS:

Bullish:
Traders who believe that gold and other precious metals are in less abundance then the study shows might want to consider the following trades:

  • With the European debt crisis rearing its head every other day, and currency devaluations going on around the world, the only place for safety is precious metals. SPDR Gold Trust ETF GLD and iShares Silver Trust ETF SLV should do well.
Bearish:
Traders who believe that the world will solve its problems overnight may consider alternate positions:

  • This is probably not going to happen, but we could see equities rally like never before and precious metals plunge beyond all technical levels. Gold has a technical base at around $1,750 an ounce and we could move right past that if Europe gets their act together. A Greek default could be the first step in that.
