McDonald's
MCD
is already in China in a major way, but it is going to grow even faster, and that might have shareholders saying "I'm lovin' it" in Chinese. According to
Bloomberg,
McDonald's is going to be taking Yum! Brands
YUM
head on in the world's most populated country in a major way. “We should be opening a restaurant every day in the next three to four years” in China, Peter Rodwell, company president for Asia ex-Japan, Australia and New Zealand, said to Bloomberg from Singapore. “We're now opening a restaurant every other day.” McDonald's already has 1,300 stores in the country and aims to get to 2,000 by 2013. The company believes in the franchise model, although it only has six McDonald's shops in China that are franchised, according to Vivian Zhang, a Shanghai-based spokeswoman. McDonald's wants to continue growing its franchising business in China, as it is “confident about the China market's future”, Zhang said in an e-mailed statement to Bloomberg. The process first started in Wuxi in 2007. “We expect somewhere in the range of 15 to 20 percent of the organization or the business will be franchised in the next five to six years,” Rodwell said on Bloomberg TV. As the company grows in China, it could potentially add 10,000 jobs in the country, as each new restaurant needs about 60 employees. At 15 times forward earnings and sporting a 2.8% dividend yield, McDonald's shares continue to be one of the better values in a market that is desperately seeking a safe haven that offers growth. It may not be growing like Apple
AAPL
, but investors will need to start learning how to say "Im lovin' it" in Chinese very soon, if they have not already. To answer the question, here it is: 我就喜欢它

Bullish:
Traders who believe that McDonald's will conquer the Chinese market might want to consider the following trades:

  • Buy McDonald's on weakness. This is very good news for McDonald's, as the companies strategy in China should continue to allow the company to grow and expand its dominant global position. McDonald's is one of the highest quality stocks in the United States, rising 23% over the last year, and offering a 2.82% dividend.
Bearish:
Traders who believe that Yum Brands! will lose market share in China to McDonald's may consider alternate positions:

  • Short Yum Brands, as McDonald's aggressive China strategy could hurt Yum! Brands in the long run. Investors could consider a pairs trade, by going long MCD and short YUM on the expectation that MCD will take market share in China.
