Comparing The Performance Of The Fertilizer Stocks

Traders and investors that have been bullish on the fertilizer space over the last few months have likely been knocked around a bit. The froth has been coming out of the commodity space and fertilizer stocks have not been the best performers. Looking at the charts, however, it becomes apparent that CF Industries

has been handily outperforming its competitors in terms of stock performance. While we cannot be sure if this trend will continue, the relative strength is quite impressive. Simply put, if you are looking for anything that vaguely resembles a strong fertilizer stock, go with CF. Over the last month, CF is up nearly 5%. This compares to losses of over 13% for Mosaic

, 12% for Agrium

, and 9% for Potash

. Similarly, over the last 3 months CF shares have gained around 1.4% compared to losses of nearly 21% for MOS, 14.57% for AGU, and 13% for POT. The stock is also handily outperforming its peers on the 6 month and 1 year charts. In fact, CF has more than doubled over the last 52-weeks, while its nearest competitor performance wise, Potash, is up around 60%.
