This article from
Boy Genius Report
says it may very well be a possibility. According to sources from Boy Genius Report, there could be some near field communication (
NFC
) integration into the newest version of the iPhone. In the article, Boy Genius notes that Apple's POS devices — its iPod touch-based wireless payment terminals — recently all went offline for “maintenance” for a day. There has also been some packages that were "overnighted" to Apple stores, which will require employees to install to be determined devices. The sources go on to say that there is wiring at new tables in the store that is drastically different than the wiring at the other tables, and have cash wraps built in. One name to consider off this rumor is NXP Semiconductor
NXPI
, which is the leading chip maker of NFC chips. Shares of NXP Semiconductor are higher this morning.
