NFLX
, as it closed its purchase of Blockbuster yesterday. Janney Montgomery Scott analyst Tony Wible wrote in a research report that DirectTV is currently surveying customers about a potential new service. Wible wrote, "Shortly after Dish purchased Blockbuster, DirecTV started to circulate the following survey, which may suggest that DirecTV is also looking to start a streaming service." The survey said, "The service would allow you to stream thousands of movies and television shows over a broadband Internet connection to your television, computer or tablet. The content available would likely be past season of current shows as well as older TV series and older movie released (released more than five years ago)." No details were given about a price point, launch date, or who would be allowed to subscribe. Shares of DirectTV are up 44 cents to $47.70, a gain of 0.9%, while shares of Netflix are up $4.15 to $233.06, a gain of 1.8%.
