US Stock Futures Up As Investors Await Economic Data And FOMC Minutes
US stock futures are higher this morning, as investors are awaiting US economic reports and minutes from the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting. Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 43 points to 11,628.00, while those for the S&P 500 index moved up 3.90 points to 1,269.20. Futures for the Nasdaq 100 index rose 4.50 points to 2,255.00.
US stock markets closed higher yesterday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average gaining 93.24 points, or 0.81%.
Data on factory orders for November will be released at 10 a.m. ET, while auto sales are also due for Tuesday. The minutes of the FOMC meeting will be released at 2 p.m. ET.
Wall Street expects Sonic Corp (NASDAQ: SONC) to report its Q1 EPS at $0.10. Neogen Corporation (NASDAQ: NEOG) is projected to report its Q2 EPS at $0.26.
Borders Group Inc (NYSE: BGP) reported that two of its top executives have submitted their resignation. The retailer's chief information officer D. Scott Laverty and general counsel and secretary Thomas D. Carney stepped down from their respective posts. The company didn't disclose any reason why Laverty or Carney are resigning.
Positive sentiment ruled the European markets today. While STOXX Europe 600 Index has advanced 1.06%, London's FTSE 100 Index moved up 2.31%.
Asian markets ended in the positive territory, with Japan's Nikkei Stock Average adding 1.65%, Australia's S&P/ASX 200 moving up 0.05% and China's Shanghai Composite gaining 1.59%.
The euro gained about 0.5% to $1.3403. Gold for February delivery dropped $17.10 to $1,405.80 an ounce. Crude-oil futures gained $0.43 to $91.98 per barrel.
