Android Continues To Gain Market Share (GOOG)
comScore (NASDAQ: SCOR) is reporting that Google's (NASDAQ: GOOG) Android continues to gain market share, even at the expense of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) and Research In Motion (NASDAQ: RIMM).
From June to September, Android gained 6.5% of market share, going from 14.9% to 21.4%., mostly at the expense of RIMM and Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT). 1 in 5 smart phones are now Android phones, and with a free operating system, there is no reason to think that this market share won't continue to grow.
Android continues to be a huge growth driver for Google, as it captures the mobile search market. Google said on its last conference call, that Android was already $1 billion plus in driving revenue.
Investors in Google should continue to watch this metric, as the search behemoth continues to expand its ever growing presence in our lives.
