With all of the unclassified information from social media floating around in cyberspace, government agencies are able to pinpoint the location of radicalized citizens as well as track gatherings and protests all over the world. However, the sheer volume of data has made it difficult for companies to process and send up-to-the-minute information to troops on the ground where there may be limited bandwidth or no internet connection at all. However,
DigitalGlobe Inc.DGI
says it may be able to
solve this problem
with cloud-based computing.
Defense From The Cloud
The company is currently beta-testing new tools that provide users with high-resolution satellite images and social media feeds using a limited amount of bandwidth. The tools are able to process and analyze that data using cloud computing, making the results easier to access. The service also allows users to download information for later use if they are going to have restricted access to the web.
Up-To-Date Images
Not only can the tools deliver information quickly and easily, but they are expected to boast a high quality as well. The satellite images provided come from the previous 30 days, making it the most up-to-date information available. The images can be used to track changes, something that could prove especially useful when it comes to disaster relief.
Ready To Roll
The company's director of technical solutions has said that the product can be easily implemented for clients already using DigitalGlobe satellite images, a group that includes 10,000 different government agencies.
