KT Corporation was founded on December 10, 1981 in Korea. The Company is an integrated provider of telecommunications services. Its services include mobile service, fixed-line telephone services, Internet services including broadband Internet access service and data communication service. Its segments include the Telecommunication & Convergence Customer Group, which engages in providing various telecommunication services to individual/home customers and the convergence business, the Global & Enterprise Customer Group, which engages in telecommunication services for the global market and corporate customers, as well as data communication service, the Finance/Rental Business Group, which engages in providing various financial services such as credit card and lending, as well as automobile rental and leasing business and others, which include security services, satellite service, information technology and network services, satellite TV service and real estate development businesses. As an integrated telecommunications service provider, its main services include: Personal Communications Service (or PCS) mobile telecommunications service and third-generation HSDPA-based IMT-2000 wireless Internet and video multimedia communications services; telephone services, including local, domestic long-distance and international long-distance fixed-line telephone services and interconnection services to other telecommunications companies; broadband Internet access service and other Internet-related services, including IP-TV services; and various other services, including leased line service and other data communication service, satellite service and information technology and network services. It provides mobile services based on CDMA technology and W-CDMA technology. The Company's telephone network includes exchanges, long-distance transmission equipment and fiber optic and copper cables. Under the Telecommunications Business Act, it is required to permit other service providers to interconnect to its fixed-line network. Currently, the main users of this interconnection capacity include SK Broadband and LG Telecom (offering local, domestic long-distance and international long-distance services), Onse and SK Telink (offering international and domestic long-distance services), and SK Telecom and LG Telecom (transmitting calls to and from their mobile networks). Leveraging on its nationwide network of approximately 405,528 kilometers of fiber optic cable network, it has achieved a position in the broadband Internet access market in Korea. The Company's other Internet-related services focus mainly on providing infrastructure and solutions for business enterprises, as well as IP-TV and network portal services. It also offers high definition video-on-demand and real-time broadcasting IP-TV services under the brand name 'QOOK TV.' The Company's IP-TV service offers access to an array of digital media contents, including movies, sports, news, educational programs and TV replay, for a fixed monthly fee. The Company's data communication service involves offering exclusive lines that allow point-to-point connection for voice and data traffic between two or more geographically separate points. It also engages in various business activities that extend beyond telephone services and data communications services, including information technology and network services, real estate development and car rental business.
