LB Foster Co was formed in the year 1902. The Company manufactures and distributes products and services for rail, construction, energy, and utility markets. The Company classifies its activities into three business segments; Rail Products, Construction Products, and Tubular Products. The Company's Rail Products segment is comprised of manufacturing and distribution businesses, which provides products for railroads, transit authorities, industrial companies and missing applications for North America and the United Kingdom. It has sales offices in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom and bids on rail projects where it can offer products manufactured or sourced from numerous suppliers. The Company produces rail anchors and track spikes at its manufacturing plant in St. Jean, Quebec for the Canadian railroads with some export sales. The segment is composed of the following business units; rail manufacturing and distribution, rail technology and concrete products. The Company provides new and used rail, trackwork, and accessories to railroads, mines, and industry. The Company designs and produces concrete railroad ties, insulated rail joints, power rail, track fasteners, and special accessories for mass transit and other rail systems. Company's Construction Products segment is composed of business units such as piling, fabricated products, and precast concrete buildings. Piling products are sourced from various manufacturers and either sold or rented to project owners and contractors. The Company sells steel piling, H-bearing piling, pipe piling, and provides rental sheet piling for foundation requirements. In addition, the Company supplies precast concrete buildings, bridge decking, bridge railing, expansion joints and other products for highway construction and repair. The Building division produces precast concrete buildings. The fabricated products unit manufactures fabricated steel and aluminum products for the highway, bridge and transit industries, including grid reinforced concrete deck and open steel grid flooring systems, guardrails, expansion joints and bridge forms. The CXT concrete buildings unit manufactures concrete buildings primarily for national, state and municipal parks. This unit manufactures restrooms, concession stands and other protective storage buildings available in multiple designs, textures and colors. The Company's Tubular Products segment has two discrete business units; coated pipe and threaded products. The Company has two coated pipe locations, Birmingham, AL facility and Willis, TX. The Company's Tubular Products supplies pipe coatings for natural gas pipelines and utilities. The Company also produces threaded pipe products for industrial water well and irrigation markets. The Company, along with its joint venture, L.B. Pipe & Coupling Products, LLC, manufactures, markets and sells various precision couplings and other products for the energy, utility and construction markets. The Company markets its rail, construction and tubular products directly in industrial areas of the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom through a sales force of approximately 80 people. The Company also utilizes a network of agents across Europe, South America and Asia to supplement its internal sales force to reach current customers and cultivate potential customers in these areas. The Company maintains 24 sales offices and 20 warehouses, plant and yard facilities located throughout United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. The Company faces significant competition from different groups of companies. The Company owns number of United States, Canadian and international patents and trademarks. The Company has patents on its Rail Technologies products, such as the Protector IV application system, along with a significant number of patents related to its friction modifier product lines at Rail Technologies, which are of material importance to the business as a whole.
