The Company and its subsidiaries are engaged in the motion picture exhibition industry with theatres in the United States, or U.S., Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama and Guatemala. It managed its business under two reportable operating segments: U.S. markets and international markets. As of December 31, 2013, it operated 482 theatres and 5,563 screens in the U.S. and Latin America. In the U.S., Company relies on Internet advertising and also newspaper directory film schedules for marketing its products. Radio and television advertising spots are used to promote certain motion pictures and special events. The Company competes against local, regional, national and international exhibitors with respect to attracting patrons, licensing films and developing new theatre sites. Its U.S. competitors include Regal, AMC and Carmike Cinemas, Inc. and international competitors, which vary by country, include GSR, Cinepolis, Village Theatres and Cinemundo. The distribution of motion pictures is largely regulated by federal and state antitrust laws and has been the subject of numerous antitrust cases.
