Eagle Supports Top-Canadian Cyclo-Cross Racer
OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 12, 2010) - Eagle Professional Resources Inc. (Eagle) is proud to sponsor Conor O'Brien, a top-Canadian junior cyclo-cross competitor, as he represents Canada at two international events this month. The 17 year old Ottawa native will be travelling to the Netherlands and Czech Republic in January to compete on the world stage at the 2009-2010 Cyclo-Cross World Cup and the 2010 UCI Junior Cyclo-Cross World Championships, respectively.
Conor has been cycling competitively since he was 11, and at the age of 13, he discovered cyclo-cross racing - a challenge that involves biking through multiple terrains, facing a variety of obstacles and, at times, actually dismounting and carrying the bike for a period of the race. In addition to maintaining his place on the honour role at Sacred Heart High School, Conor trains 15 hours a week and dedicates most of his spare time to preparing and perfecting both his physical and technical abilities. This past fall, he placed 2nd at the Canadian National Championships in Edmonton, earning him a spot at the 2010 UCI Junior Cyclo-Class World Championships. Conor's persistence and commitment to excellence are strong contributing factors to the reasons Eagle has chosen to stand behind him.
"Eagle is proud to be associated with a world class athlete like Conor O'Brien and wish him every success as he represents Canada in competition around the world," said Eagle CEO, Kevin Dee. "As a company, he inspires us to emulate that level of dedication and commitment as we strive for excellence in our own work."
The young athlete and aspiring professional has travelled across Canada and into the United States to race, but this will be his first competition overseas. "Europe is considered the heart and soul of the cycling universe and competing at this level will prove to be an exciting new challenge for me," explains Conor. "I am grateful for Eagle's support. Every year my competitive schedule expands which also means an increase in travel and competition fees, Eagle's support is an instrumental step in my development path."
Conor's father, David O'Brien, Eagle's Vice President of Eastern Canada is pleased with the partnership between Eagle and his son, recognizing a connection between his son's determination and Eagle's desire to support young people working towards a goal. "We've watched Conor place unlimited amounts of effort into this sport and our entire family is proud of him and his achievements. We look forward to supporting him at these world competitions and I'm thrilled that the entire Eagle Team stands behind him."
Eagle has a history of helping young Canadians develop and achieve their goals. In addition to sponsoring Conor in his athletic endeavours, Eagle has awarded a number of college scholarships over the past 13 years, and is the primary sponsor to MASC's Young Authors and Illustrators Conference, an event that connects children with accomplished authors and illustrators in a series of workshops. Eagle is also a proud supporter of the United Way, having donated $105,000 to United Way programs in the past year.
