Statement by the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Occasion of the Canadian New Media Awards

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 1, 2009) - Canadians' everyday media experiences are multiplying as digital media technologies converge at an ever-increasing pace. Never have we had so many opportunities. In fact, our choices are virtually unlimited.

Our Government is proud to recognize the contribution made to Canada's economic well-being by a vibrant broadcasting and interactive media sector. We are working with a variety of stakeholders to invest in programs that help to foster competitiveness and build capacity within the industry, while keeping our focus on the best interest of Canadians. Canada can, and should, be on the cutting edge of technological advances, continuing to lead the way. There has never been a better time to be alive than right now. Access to the entire planet is at our fingertips, and the incredible opportunities that exist right across this country are remarkable.

The Canadian New Media Awards celebrate excellence and recognize the outstanding contribution made to Canada's interactive digital media industry by recipients selected in 19 diverse categories.
