Marchers for Peace and Nonviolence Arrive to Montreal December 1st

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Nov. 30, 2009) - Pierre Hennico, Emilia Giorgetti and Miguel Angel Fernandez, members of the World March for Peace and Nonviolence Team, will arrive to Montreal on Tuesday, Dec 1, after having journeyed through more than 50 countries.

Program of activities for December 1

- 10h00 - Passing of Hiroshima Nuclear Abolition Flame to Mrs Mary Deros, executive committee member of the City of Montreal, at City Hall

- 13h00 - Departure of the March in Parc Extension with 1000 students

- 13h30 - YMCA Centre-ville, 1435 Drummond- reading of the "Charter for a World Without Violence" and handing out of copies

- 14h00 - The March begins in downtown Montreal - 1435 Drummond

- 14h30 - live Peace Sign - Carre Philips

- 19h00 - "Soiree" with the world march team at "centre Jeunesse Unie" in Park Extension -7060 Bloomfield

At 10h00, on Tuesday December 1st, the March Team will deliver the Hiroshima Flame to David Vachon (10 years old) and to Mr. Alan Brown (war veteran). Mr. Vachon and Mr. Brown will then deliver the Flame to Mme Deros in front of City Hall.

At 13h00 Miguel Angel Fernandez will march with students from various schools in Parc Extension in Montreal.

At 13h30 at the downtown YMCA, some students from the Villa-Maria school will read the "Charter for a World Without Violence", written by the Nobel Peace Laureates. The International March team will receive certificates of the kilometers walked by all the schools and groups who have participated in World March activities as of November 30. All students present will receive a colouring or activity book of nonviolence.

All participants will then be invited to endorse the Charter, which will be presented to the Parliament in Ottawa on December 2.

At 14h00, a march will start at the corner of Drummond and de Maisonneuve (1435 Drummond) which will go to Carre Philips.

At 14h30 a live Peace Sign will be formed by all the participants, and then everyone will join in a mass karaoke of "Imagine".

At 19h00 the members of the world march for peace and nonviolence will talk about their trip, and visits around the world and about their futur journey into the Americas at the Centre Jeunesse Unie.

These events are open to everyone.

The World March for Peace and Nonviolence started on October 2, with a small team of marchers leaving from New Zealand. It has already travelled over 50 countries, and will end on January 2, 2010, in Punta de Vacas in Argentine, in the Andes. Over 90 days, the March will have travelled through more than 90 countries, across six continents. The aim of the World March is to create a consciousness of nonviolence, and to call for the abolition of nuclear weapons. It is an initiative of World Without Wars, an organization affiliated with the Humanist Movement.
