HP Inc., the Kenmore brand, 3M Filtrete, and Epson join dozens of other device makers developing smart products with automatic reordering capabilities

New devices from illy and Petcube are now available with Dash Replenishment

Virtual Dash Button Service now available to bring 1-Click reordering to connected devices with screens

AMZN—Amazon today welcomes several new device makers joining the Dash Replenishment program to develop smart products to automatically reorder consumables when supply runs low. Device makers include HP, Kenmore, 3M's Filtrete brand, Epson, and Blustream. Additionally, devices from illy and Petcube are now available for customers to purchase.

Dash Replenishment enables smart, connected devices to measure supply consumption through a variety of inputs, including infrared, pressure flow, weight, and other sensor arrays. The measurement then signals an automatic reorder of supplies before they run out. For example, a Dash Replenishment-enabled washing machine can automatically reorder detergent or a smart printer can automatically reorder ink.

In addition, Amazon announced the Virtual Dash Button Service (VDBS), an SDK that allows third parties to offer virtual Dash Buttons on their screened devices. Virtual Dash Buttons are shortcuts that allow Prime members to quickly find and reorder their favorite products from a selection of millions of eligible products. Virtual Dash Buttons launched on Amazon's mobile application and website in January 2017, expanded to Echo Show in October, and now can be available on third party devices via VDBS

"We've all felt the frustration of realizing we're out of something we frequently use, so it's no surprise customers are loving the convenience of Dash Replenishment, which makes shopping for everyday consumables completely disappear," said Daniel Rausch, Vice President of Smart Home, Amazon. "Dash Replenishment takes advantage of smart, connected products, enabling a device to track supply usage so a customer never runs out of what they need."

New device makers joining the Dash Replenishment program include leading, national brands:

  • HP is developing printers that automatically reorder ink.
"Printing is about preserving and sharing what matters most in our lives – from treasured photos to important business documents," said Anthony Napolitano, Vice President and General Manager, Print Services and Solutions, HP Inc. "With Dash Replenishment, customers can experience the joy of printing without the fear of running out of ink. We are proud to team up with Amazon on this exciting new service, which alongside services such as HP Instant Ink, will give everyone an easier way to print."
  • The Kenmore brand is developing several smart home appliances, including a refrigerator, washer, dryer, dishwasher, and water softener, that will automatically reorder supplies.
"Most of us inevitably forget to restock the consumables we need – like laundry detergent and dishwasher tabs – until we've run out," said Chris McGugan, general manager, Innovation & Kenmore at Sears Holdings Corporation. "By integrating Dash Replenishment with our home appliances, we're using innovative technology to automate reordering and make sure our customers always have the supplies they need to keep their homes running smoothly."
  • 3M is developing Filtrete Smart Air Filters that automatically reorder replacement filters when the filter reaches end of life.
"Using a high-performance air filter is a great way to help improve the air quality in your home, but many customers aren't sure when they need to replace their filters," said Patrick Hiner, New Product Marketing Manager from 3M. "We've leveraged Dash Replenishment to build sensors directly onto Filtrete Air Filters to accurately track customer usage and ensure replacement filters arrive just in time."
  • Epson is developing printers that automatically reorder ink.
  • Blustream sensors and analytics platform connects Dash Replenishment with humidity, temperature, and usage data to reorder items like humidity remediation products when they need replacing.

Additionally, two new Dash Replenishment-integrated products are now available for customers to purchase. The recently launched illy Y5 Espresso & Coffee Machine tracks capsule usage for reorders.

"Coffee is a must-have for many homes and offices so running out can be very inconvenient," said Barry Sheldon from Illy. "We're incredibly excited to deliver the first capsule coffee machine with Dash Replenishment integration – the illy Y5 Espresso & Coffee Machine, which creates an easy and efficient way to reorder, ensuring coffee is on-hand whenever it's needed."

Petcube Bites is a HD pet camera and treat dispenser that allows you to interact remotely with your pet by flinging a treat to them when you're away—with Dash Replenishment, the device automatically reorders the treat of your choice before you run out.

"We love that Dash Replenishment means pet parents never have to worry about running out of their favorite treats when using the Petcube Bites treat camera. This integration supports our mission of making technology available to pet parents that helps improve pet care while enriching the pet parent/pet connection," said Yaroslav Azhnyuk, CEO and co-founder of Petcube.
