Award recognizes outstanding leadership in strengthening Minnesota's economy and culture

Minnesota's most prominent business publication announced this morning that it has chosen Ecolab Chairman and CEO Douglas Baker Jr. as 2017's Person of the Year.

"For this award, we considered several individuals' achievements during the past year. Baker stood out for exceptional leadership that is strengthening our state's economy, reputation and culture," says Twin Cities Business Editor in Chief Dale Kurschner. "Specifics include how well he has transformed and grown Ecolab—and recommitted its headquarters in downtown St. Paul; his role in securing the Super Bowl in Minneapolis this season; his board service at Target Corp. and U.S. Bank; and his community involvement in several organizations including the Itasca Group, Minnesota Business Partnership, Greater MSP and United Way."

Baker will be the subject of Twin Cities Business' December cover story. That edition also will reveal the magazine's 100 most influential people to know in 2018, which includes titans, behind-the-scenes leaders, up-and-comers and hopefuls.

A 2017 Person of the Year reception for Baker and 2018's People to Know will take place at Radisson Blu Minneapolis the evening of Dec. 14. For more information, visit tcbmag.com/POY17.

This is the fifth year Twin Cities Business has named a Person of the Year. The distinction went to U.S. Bank Chairman Richard Davis last year; Medtronic Chairman and CEO Omar Ishrak in 2015; Mayo Clinic President and CEO Dr. John Noseworthy in 2014, and Duluth Mayor Don Ness in 2013.
