Today Muslims across Canada and around the world celebrate Eid al-Fitr, a joyous holiday marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan

OTTAWA, June 24, 2017 /CNW/ - Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting. It is a time of happiness and celebration. A time when families, neighbours and friends come together to pray and feast and recommit themselves to strengthening community and showing generosity and compassion to others.

This Muslim holiday reminds us all of the importance of connecting with loved ones, caring for those less fortunate than ourselves and being thankful for all we have. It also reminds us of the enormous contributions Canada's diverse Muslim community make to our country's cultural richness and economic prosperity.

As we mark Canada 150, Canadians of all ages and backgrounds are celebrating what makes our communities unique, diverse and vibrant. This special year is a great opportunity to discover more about the diverse cultures and people who make our neighbourhoods, province and country such amazing places to live.

As Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Multiculturalism, I wish everyone observing Eid al‑Fitr a joyous celebration. Eid Mubarak!
