Hacker Halted, EC-Council Foundation's premier cyber security conference, wrapped up its fourth consecutive year in Atlanta, GA, bringing together over 1,100 information security professionals from around the US and all over the world.

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) October 07, 2016

Hacker Halted, EC-Council Foundation's largest annual information security conference of the year, attracted attendees from Algeria, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Cameroon, Colombia, Ecuador, Egypt, France, Ghana, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Netherlands, Nigeria, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Thailand, Trinidad and Tobago, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, and all over the United States, making it a truly global event.

Prior to the kickoff of the event, attendees were invited to attend the job fair hosted by TechFetch to network with companies looking to hire qualified information security professionals at all levels. Over 200 people attended the job fair.

The kickoff of Hacker Halted included the announcement of the winners of the Global CyberLympics, EC-Council Foundation's annual global hacking championships. The team from the Netherlands, Hack.ers, defended their title as the reigning hacking champions for the fifth time since the inception of the Games.

Next, the audience was treated to the "Privacy vs. Security Debate" to hear Kurt Opshaul from the EFF, Amar Singh, former CISO of News International, Jack Daniel, security researcher at Tenable Network Security, and retired FBI Special Agent Steve Bongart, discuss where the line should be drawn between ensuring security and respecting privacy. The debate was moderated by Mitzi Hill, Partner at Taylor English Duma LLP with a long history in cyber security. The debate included lively exchanges on the important issues surrounding the responsibilities of law enforcement, privacy concerns of citizens, corporate security programs, and the hacker perspective on where the line should be drawn.

For those hackers looking to test their skills, there was a Capture the Flag game presented by Chiron running throughout the two days of the conference where competitors scored points for penetrating the game's defenses. Along that same theme, there was also a lock picking exhibition run by Augusta Locksports where attendees' physical security skills were put to the test.

The two days of speakers included luminaries in the hacking community, including Samy Kamka, the well known whistleblower, hacker, and entrepreneur. Kamka gave a presentation entitled "The Less Hacked Path" wherein he explored a new field of exciting research that uses side channels, physics, and low cost tools to employ powerful attacks against modern technology.

Another notable speaker, Jack Daniel, presented on the people in information security, both known and unknown, that paved the way and are continuing to make great strides in the industry. The objective of the presentation was to pay homage to the people and ideas that shape the modern security landscape.

Participant feedback included:

"Best conference I've been to so far. Had some great conversations and met some great people, and the location was convenient for me."

"This was a great conference. We will look forward to bringing our InfoSec people next year."
