Mackinac Island Tourism Announces Labor Day Festivities Lineup

Mackinac Island Tourism is excited to announce a full lineup of Labor Day festivities for the whole family. Events include the annual bridge walk and music.

Mackinac Island Tourism has announced a full lineup of events scheduled for the Labor Day holiday. The 59th Annual Labor Day Mackinac Bridge Walk draws thousands every year and begins at 7:00AM. Jazz fans can also take part in a weekend of jazz performances at the Grand Hotel. Additionally, participants can enjoy the Michigan Music Showcase featuring local musicians.

Every year since 1958 thousands have crossed the Mackinac Bridge, which connects Michigan's Upper and Lower Peninsulas. The walk begins in St. Ignace, at the north end of the Mackinac Bridge in the Upper Peninsula, and ends in Mackinaw City at the south end of the lower peninsula. There is no fee to walk the bridge and a $5 fee to use bus transportation. Participants can buy their tickets in Mackinaw City at the bus loading area then board a bus to St. Ignace to begin the walk on the bridge. Strollers, wheelchairs, service dogs are permitted. Island ferry companies are providing special transportation to get people staying on island to and from the walk.

There will also be a Michigan Music Showcase at the Mission Point Resort and The Annual Grand Hotel Jazz Festival. The public can attend concerts and cookouts in Grand Hotel's Tea Garden at noon on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday the Cherry Poppin' Daddies take the stage with their Rat Pack flair. Sunday's concert features recording artist Bob James. Opening for Mr. James will be Grand Hotel Orchestra Leader Alex Graham. Live music is played throughout the holiday at The Jockey Club located across the street from the hotel. Geoff Hansen and Dave Bennet are the featured artists.

In addition to these special events visitors come to Mackinac Island to enjoy a narrated horse and carriage tour, fudge sampling, shopping and Fort Mackinac to name just a few staples offered daily.
