OMA reports a 10.7% increase in August 2016 passenger traffic

MONTERREY, Mexico, Sept. 06, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mexican airport operator Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte, S.A.B. de C.V., known as OMA OMAB OMA, reports that terminal passenger traffic at its 13 airports increased 10.7% in August 2016, as compared to August 2015. Domestic traffic increased 13.0%, and international traffic decreased 5.6%.

Of total August traffic, 98.4% was commercial aviation and 1.6% was general aviation.

Domestic traffic increased in nine airports in August. The most noteworthy increases were in Monterrey (+11.8%; +82,339 passengers), Culiacán (+19.9%; +24,963), Ciudad Juárez (+31.4%; +24,609), Chihuahua (+19.9%; +19,238), and Torreón (+23.5%; +10,479). Monterrey traffic increased principally because of higher traffic volumes on the Guadalajara, Tijuana and Mexico City routes.  Culiacán traffic increased as a result of higher volumes on its Tijuana and Guadalajara routes. Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, and Torreón increased traffic principally on their Mexico City routes.

TAR opened the Mazatlán – Torreón route in August.

International traffic increased in six airports in August. Traffic increased most significantly in Durango (+121.1%; +3,349 passengers), principally because of higher volumes on its Chicago and Los Angeles routes.  Monterrey (-9.6%; -11,920 passengers) recorded the largest decrease, principally because of reduced traffic on its Dallas and Las Vegas routes.

The number of flight operations (takeoffs and landings) in August increased 2.9%.  The number of domestic operations increased 3.5%, and international operations decreased 0.8%.
