CME Outfitters to host a series of live webcasts on The Journey to Diagnosis and Optimal Treatment of Narcolepsy: Land of Missed Opportunities, beginning September 27th.

Bethesda, MD (PRWEB) August 19, 2016

CME Outfitters (CMEO), a leading accredited provider in continuing medical education, announces a new Live and On Demand Expert Connection Module series entitled The Journey to Diagnosis and Optimal Treatment of Narcolepsy: Land of Missed Opportunities. This series, which is supported by an educational grant from Jazz Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is divided into three separate modules – each having two launch dates – all of which will be followed by a 30-minute interactive question-and-answer session with the presenting faculty.

Patients with narcolepsy often face a long journey on their path to diagnosis and effective treatment. Combating the negative impact of narcolepsy on the lives of those affected requires that both the general public and the medical community increase their awareness of the symptoms of narcolepsy, in particular, the most common presenting symptoms: cataplexy and excessive daytime sleepiness. Improved recognition of both symptoms and objective measures of narcolepsy can shorten the burdensome lag from symptom onset to effective treatment and improve the lives of people with this life-altering central disorder of hypersomnolence. Although a cure for narcolepsy is not available, effective treatments are currently available and more are on the horizon. CME Outfitters is proud to have an expert faculty panel for this activity series consisting of Thomas Roth, PhD, Richard K. Bogan, MD, FCCP, FAASM, and Todd J. Swick, MD, who will faculty will discuss screening strategies for patients with possible narcolepsy, applying AASM quality measures for diagnosis of narcolepsy, and prescribing evidence-based treatment.

The series will launch on Tuesday, September 27th with Recognizing the Symptoms of Narcolepsy: Screening Your Sleepy Patients for Cataplexy: Live Q&A with Dr. Swick, Session I at 3:00-4:00pm ET, with the second session - Recognizing the Symptoms of Narcolepsy: Screening Your Sleepy Patients for Cataplexy: Live Q&A with Dr. Swick, Session II– launching the following day, Wednesday, September 28th at 12:00-1:00pm ET. The first session of the next part of the series, From Symptom Recognition to Narcolepsy Diagnosis: Shortening the Diagnostic Journey: Live Q&A with Dr. Swick, will launch Thursday, September 29th at 3:00-4:00pm ET. The second session of this module - From Symptom Recognition to Narcolepsy Diagnosis: Shortening the Diagnostic Journey: Live Q&A with Dr. Bogan – will launch on Tuesday, October 11th at 12:00-1:00pm ET. Two days later, on Thursday, October 13th at 12:00-1:00pm, the third module, Treating the Full Spectrum of Narcolepsy: Improving Nighttime Symptoms to Enhance Daytime Quality of Life: Live Q&A with Dr. Bogan, Session I will launch, with the final live webcast, Treating the Full Spectrum of Narcolepsy: Improving Nighttime Symptoms to Enhance Daytime Quality of Life: Live Q&A with Dr. Bogan, Session II premiering Wednesday, October 19th at 12:00-1:00pm ET.

At conclusion of this series, participants should be able to prescribe evidence based treatment for all patients with narcolepsy within one month of diagnosing a patient with narcolepsy. This activity is open to all primary care physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, and pharmacists who manage patients with narcolepsy.
