EMERYVILLE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

CEP America CEO, Wesley A. Curry, MD, will be speaking at the National Medical Association's 114th Annual Convention and Scientific Assembly, which will take place July 30 to August 3 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

Curry's presentation, "What's Next in Population Health Management for Patients with Acute Conditions?" is slated for Monday, August 1 at 9:30 a.m. PDT. He will discuss the importance of managing patients along the acute care continuum and fostering collaboration and integration among physicians and care teams.

"It's important to know where your home is," said Curry. "The healthcare ecosystem is rapidly evolving due to factors such as the ACA, the economy, hospital consolidation, and the shift towards value-based care. Sometimes hospitals and healthcare organizations get wrapped up in all the changes and forget their core mission and focus. Getting back to basics, to a focus on true integration, collaboration, and communication at every step of the acute care continuum can help hospitals better reach their goals."

Curry's presentation will highlight the changing practice management challenges for hospitals and physicians as healthcare moves towards a value-based model. He'll highlight that the industry must remain focused on excellence in patient care while also developing a business strategy around collaboration, integration, the patient experience, operational efficiency, and financial margins.

"A key business driver will be value, not volume of services," said Curry. "Physicians are uniquely positioned to take a leadership role in their local ecosystems to create value for patients. Value-based, collaborative care is no longer an option; it is the future of healthcare."

Since becoming CEO in 1995, Curry has overseen the growth of CEP America to more than 250 unique physician practices in over 110 hospitals and more than 35 health systems. He has been a visionary for the organization, embracing information technology as a management tool, and the acute care continuum organizational strategy to deliver value-based patient care throughout the multi-state, multi-specialty partnership that exists today.

The National Medical Association (NMA)'s Annual Convention and Scientific Assembly is acclaimed as the nation's foremost forum on medical science and African American health. Each year, African American physicians and other health professionals from across the country convene to participate in the scholarly exchange of medical advances, discuss health policy priorities and to share experience through networking opportunities.
