The Richard King Mellon Foundation Awards The Kiski School $2 million grant to support the renovation of Vlahos Hall, a dormitory on the School's Campus, to assist with the creation of the new science and engineering center and support other smaller campus renovation projects.

Saltsburg, PA (PRWEB) June 09, 2016

The expansion and renovation of Vlahos Hall will begin in June. The proposed renovations of the dorm include new faculty and dorm parent apartment; a new common area; four new dorm rooms; and air conditioning for the entire dorm. In addition to supporting Vlahos Hall, the funds will assist with upgrades to the Turley Dining Hall, the Sheesley Hall Dormitory, and the Stephen C. Rogers Fine Arts Center. Some of the funding may go toward the new science and engineering center that was recently added to phase three of the current $27 million capital campaign for the School.

Christopher Brueningsen, Headmaster of The Kiski School said, "Our current campaign, Leadership for the 21st Century: A Campaign for Kiski is the largest and most successful campaign in our School's history. We will have raised $27 million when this campaign comes to a close. Kiski remains very grateful to The Richard King Mellon Foundation for helping us with our campus renovation projects and for creating such a positive impact on our fundraising program. Over the years, the foundation has been very generous with regard to assisting Kiski School with the strategic growth of our campus and facilities."

Steven T. Szilagyi, a 1988 Kiski graduate, and the Associate Headmaster for Institutional Advancement stated, "The ongoing enhancements of Kiski's campus and physical plant contribute to the many positive educational and social experiences of our students. As of today, the many renovations, additions, and investments dedicated to our educational facilities, academic offerings, and student-focused programs, within the last decade, total close to $30 million. These exciting projects continue to play a very positive role in the transformational educational experiences we continue to offer. We sincerely appreciate the continued thoughtful financial support we've received from the Richard King Mellon Foundation and the many loyal supporters of our fundraising programs for the School. This new grant from the Richard King Mellon Foundation will directly help us to further strengthen the residential experience at Kiski and strategically steward the School's educational mission which is now deeply and creatively focused on the creation of 21st Century thinkers and leaders."

As part of its current Leadership for the 21st Century Capital Campaign, Kiski School recently added a new $8.3 million, 75,000 square foot indoor Athletic Center to the campus. The Ross Athletic Center houses a new multi-use indoor training area, new weight and cardio training rooms, athletic offices, a film review room, a coaches' room, a new concession stand, a satellite bookstore, and a new outdoor patio with fire pit. The athletic building also received a total renovation of the basketball, wrestling, and swimming areas. In addition, Kiski recently added a new and improved outdoor track and turf field as well as entry way to the campus.

Based in Pittsburgh, PA, the Richard King Mellon Foundation was established in 1947 by Richard K. Mellon, chairman of Mellon Bank.
