TransCore's Canadian Freight Volumes Enter Typical Slow Period in April


TransCore Link Logistics volumes for Canadian and cross-border loads subdued in April after three consecutive months of improvement. This trend is typical for the month of April. Compared to last month, volumes receded 12 percent following last month's peak close for the first quarter of 2016. Year-over-year volumes were down 17 percent compared to April 2015.

Intra-Canada load volumes represented 27 percent of the total volumes and dipped slightly by two percent compared to volumes in April 2015.

Cross-border loads averaged 69 percent of the total data submitted by Loadlink's Canadian-based customers. Loads leaving Canada were lower by six percent, and loads coming into Canada decreased 27 percent year-over-year.

Posted equipment was flat month-over-month, but these postings represent a 13 percent increase year-over-year. The equipment-to-load ratio increased to 3.47 from 3.05 in March. Year-over-year, this ratio increased from 2.50 in April 2015, representing a 39 percent change.

TransCore's Canadian Freight Index accurately measures the movement of freight and equipment from roughly 5,500 of Canada's trucking companies and freight brokers, and includes all domestic, cross-border and interstate data submitted by Loadlink's customers.
