Franklin County is the place to be this holiday season. From events celebrating family and community, to a glimpse back at the Christmas in the past, the holidays are happening in Franklin County!

After finishing your Thanksgiving meal, the following Saturday, the local businesses of Franklin County are promoting spending locally during Small Business Saturday. On November 28, many local businesses will have special offers for shoppers looking to get a good deal and support the local economy. Through work from Downtown Chambersburg Inc. and the Downtown Business Council in Chambersburg, downtown dollars will be raffled off for those who spend $25 or more during the event.

This year, the community of Greencastle will celebrate 25 years of Heritage Christmas! During weekends throughout December, the community will have events such as horse and buggy rides, caroling, Santa, the lighting of the Christmas tree and more. Light a candle for a loved one on the Christmas tree or go shopping downtown.

Get into the holiday spirit by visiting Shippensburg's Tiny World, a miniature village with 20 different decorated houses along a trail. This roadside attraction was created as a side project but soon became an attraction which draws thousands every year.

Why not try skiing, snowboarding or tubing at Whitetail Resort? Located in Mercersburg, this resort has 23 trails, nine lifts, a half pipe, two terrain parks and a snowmaking team dedicated to making your experience the best it can be. For the avid skier or snowboarder, check out their harder trails.

Walk back in time this Christmas season to the 1800's at the Renfrew Museum in Waynesboro. On December 4 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and on Dec. 5 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., experience the traditions and feel of Christmas that our ancestors celebrated. Enjoy caroling and music throughout the site and enjoy fresh refreshments in the barn. Performers will once again perform "A Renfrew Christmas" at the Fahnestock House to depict a scene into 1800's life.

Enjoy the spirit of Christmas as the Chambersburg Ballet Theatre will present The Nutcracker on December 18 at 7:30pm and on December 19 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. They will perform at the historic Capitol Theatre.

What's Christmas without trains? The Cumberland Valley Model Railroad Club is holding their annual open house on December 13, 20, 27 and on January 2, 9 and 17 from noon to 4 p.m. Come and see the club's collection of rooms filled with hand-painted scenery and model trains from different years and types.

The new Monterey Pass Battlefield Park & Museum will also be open this year on December 19 to celebrate a Victorian Christmas during the Civil War. From noon until 4 p.m., enjoy story-telling, music, refreshments and the history of Santa Claus. Outside the museum, on the park grounds, there will be living history vignettes of Civil War soldiers. Be sure to talk with them about what it was like to be away from home and at war during Christmas! New this year is a fruit press so visitors can try their hand at pressing apples to make cider.

After the holiday cheer may have started to die down, don't worry, IceFest is just beginning! From January 28 through January 31, downtown Chambersburg will be filled with ice! This year is the 14th anniversary of this event that celebrates the community and there are over 70 sculptures that will line the streets. Don't miss this event, which includes a gigantic ice slide that kids can slide down, scavenger hunts, chili tasting at the Chili Cook-off, the Polar Dunk Plunge and more!
